The highly skilled migrant scheme in brief
The highly skilled migrant scheme lets Dutch employers hire highly educated professionals from outside the EU quickly and relatively easily. The main conditions:
- The residence permit is applied for through an IND-recognised sponsor (erkend referent).
- Your salary is above the IND salary threshold. The IND sets this threshold again every year.
- You have an employment contract with a Dutch employer.
- In most cases your partner and children can come with you.

Is an interview guaranteed?
No. We do not guarantee that an interview will take place. NedExpat only matches candidates with vacancies and applies to vacancies. Whether you are invited is up to the employer.
What happens when an employer responds positively?
We put you in touch with the employer so an interview can take place. If you both agree, our partner Control Payroll starts the highly skilled migrant procedure. They handle it completely, so your residence permit arrives as quickly as possible.
What education do I need?
We focus on vacancies at bachelor's level and above (HBO/WO). Do you have a foreign diploma? A credential evaluation by Nuffic (IDW) helps employers understand your level.
Do I need to speak Dutch?
Not always. Many employers, especially in IT, engineering and research, work in English. If you speak Dutch, you have more options. We tailor your CV to the language of the vacancy.
What happens to my data?
We handle your data carefully in line with the GDPR. We only use your CV and profile to match you with vacancies and to apply on your behalf. Read more in our privacy statement.
Can I delete my profile?
Yes. You can always delete your profile and CV under Privacy & account. If you have not been active for 12 months, we delete your data automatically.
